USA Subs was founded in 1986 by Karl Kuceris, a businessman and visionary entrepreneur with a talent for creating delicious sandwich and salad ideas.
At age 16, Karl began working his way up the corporate ladder of a very successful supermarket company in New Hampshire. Eventually, he became the meat and deli buyer, as well as the merchandiser for the company. He also conducted food handling and sanitation seminars to other well-known supermarket chains in the region. Armed with knowledge, experience and entrepreneurial drive, Karl decided to go into business for himself, opening up a deli in Boston’s famous North End. Soon, he observed an interesting pattern among his loyal customers: they were buying more sub sandwiches than anything else on the menu.
Karl got an idea. What if he opened up a new sub shop and expanded his menu to include an even wider variety of sub sandwiches? What if he offered items that many of the current sub shop franchises didn’t – like bread baked fresh on-site, hot grilled and toasted subs, cold subs, wraps and pockets, salads made to order, and impeccable customer service in a family atmosphere?
Karl acted on his idea. With Russell Hertrich, his child-hood friend and highly successful entrepreneur and real estate investor, they opened a sub shop in Derry, NH…and the rest is history.
A few years ago, following a successful corporate career with the Pawtucket Red Sox, AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, and experience with national restaurant chains in New York City, Karl’s son Keith Kuceris joined the business bringing additional talent and leadership to operations, including marketing and sales experience.
